Symmetry Relations between Crystal Structures
This manuscript has many predecessors. It is based on lectures and courses that repeatedly have been held since 1975 in Germany, Italy and France. Parts of this script were adopted from course scripts and other material by Hartmut B ¨ arnighausen (University of Karlsruhe). I am grateful to him for his generosity and for numerous discussions and suggestions.
متن کاملScrew dislocations in complex, low symmetry oxides: core structures, energetics, and impact on crystal growth.
Determining the atomic structure and the influence of defects on properties of low symmetry oxides have long been an engineering pursuit. Here, we focus on five thermodynamically reversible monoclinic and orthorhombic polymorphs of dicalcium silicates (Ca2SiO3)-a key cement constituent-as a model system and use atomistic simulations to unravel the interplay between the screw dislocation core en...
متن کاملOn Symmetry of Some Nano Structures
It is necessary to generate the automorphism group of a chemical graph in computer-aided structure elucidation. An Euclidean graph associated with a molecule is defined by a weighted graph with adjacency matrix M = [dij], where for i≠j, dij is the Euclidean distance between the nuclei i and j. In this matrix dii can be taken as zero if all the nuclei are equivalent. Otherwise, one may introduce...
متن کاملTemperature Tunability of Dielectric/ Liquid Crystal / Dielectric Photonic Crystal Structures
Recently, photonic crystals doped with liquid crystal (LC) material havegained much research interest. In this article new ternary one-dimensional photoniccrystal introduced and studied. The liquid crystal layer of 5CB and 5PCH is sandwichedby two dielectric layers. For the first time, we use four structures SiO2/UCF35/CaF2,SiO2/5CB/CaF2, NFK51/UCF35/NPSK53 and NFK51/5CB/NPSK53. The effect ofte...
متن کاملSymmetry-broken crystal structure of elemental boron at low temperature
The crystal structure of boron is unique among chemical elements, highly complex, and imperfectly known. Experimentalists report that the -rhombohedral black form is stable over all temperatures from absolute zero to melting. However, early calculations found its energy to be greater than the energy of the -rhombohedral red form, implying that the phase cannot be stable at low temperatures. Fur...
